Pentulaatikkoon kuuluu edelleen oikein hyvää. Marsut kasvavat silmissä ja Nessa viihtyy edelleen pääasiassa pentulaatikossa. Onhan siellä koko ajan joku tississä kiinni ;). Syömisessä on jo tekemisen meininkiä, päät nytkyvät kovasti tarkoituksena saada maito herumaan. Ja parhaimmillaan kuuluu intensiivistä imutusta kun maitoa siirtyy napoihin huippuvauhtia.
Saimme tänäänkin pari vierailijaa, kun vanhempani kävivät pentuja kaukoihailemassa. Nessa vain nukkui vierailun ajan. Edelleen lunki mamsku ;).
Tänään illalla aloitin pennuille Bio sensor ohjelma. Bio sensor on Yhdysvaltain armeijan kehittämä ohjelma, jonka tarkoitus on stimuloida pennun aivojen synapsien kehitystä. Pentujen hermoston kehitys on hyvin aktiivista 3-16 vuorokauden iässä, ja Bio Sensor-ohjelma kohdistuu juuri tuohon ikäkauteen. Aivosolujen välisten synapsien määrällä on vaikutus koko hermorakenteeseen. Mitä enemmän koiralla on synapseja aivosolujen välillä, sitä enemmän sillä on mahdollisuuksia käyttää aivokapasiteettiaan. Mitä aiemmin hermosto alkaa kehittyä, sitä enemmän synapseja ehtii syntyä kriittisen kehitysvaiheen aikana. Samanaikaisesti Bio Sensor hyödyttää pentua myös sosiaalistamisen kannalta, ja menetelmä totuttaa pentua käsittelyyn. Hyvän hermoston ja stressinsietokyvyn omaava koira pystyy aikuisenakin oppimaan tehokkaammin, ja toimimaan paremmin vaativissakin tilanteissa.

- parempi ongelmanratkaisukyky
Bio Sensor-ohjelma suoritetaan pennuille 3-16 vuorokauden iässä kerran päivässä. Ohjelman ärsykkeet eivät kuulu sen ikäisen pennun luontaisesti kohtaamiin ärsykkeisiin. Ohjelmaa ei toisteta useammin, sillä liiallinen stressaaminen aiheuttaa enemmän haittaa kuin hyötyä. Pentu kerrallaan käydään kaikki viisi kohtaa läpi:
1. Kosketusärsyke
Kutitetaan pentua yhden tassun varpaiden välistä pumpulipuikolla. Ei ole väliä ilmaiseeko pentu tuntevansa ärsykkeen vai ei. Kesto 3-5 sekuntia.
2. Pystyasento (pää ylös)
Pidetään pentua molemmissa käsissä niin, että se on pystyasennossa, pää hännän yläpuolella. Kesto 3-5 sekuntia.
3. Pystyasento (pää alas)
Kuten edellä, mutta pää alaspäin. Kesto 3-5 sekuntia.
4. Selkäasento
Pidetään pentua selällään kämmenillä. Kesto 3-5 sekuntia.
5. Lämpöärsyke
Asetetaan pentu mahalleen märälle, jääkaappikylmälle pyyhkeelle. Ei estetä pentua, jos yrittää ryömiä pois alustalta. Kesto 3-5 sekuntia.

Today we are starting the Bio Sensor program to our puppies. The U.S. Military developed a program in the 1970´s called Bio Sensor. The program was developed to improve the performance of dogs used for military purposes.
The basic premise of the program is that early neurological stimulation exercises could affect the performance of the dog. The Army's research revealed that early stimulation of the puppy from the 3rd day through the 16th day influence rapid neurological growth and development.
I have incorporated the Bio-Sensor program into my breeding and socialization. I believe that handling dogs at an early age helps with the physical and social development of the puppy.
Below are the six Bio Sensor exercises designed to stimulate the neurological system of the puppy. I have incorporated these exercises into our daily puppy routine. Each puppy is put through the following exercises once daily:
1. TACTILE STIMULATION Hold the puppy in one hand, the handler gently stimulates (tickles) the pup between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip. It is not necessary to see that the pup is feeling the tickle. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds.
2. HEAD HELD ERECT Using both hands, the pup is held perpendicular to the ground, (straight up), so that its head is directly above its tail. This is an upwards position. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds.
3. HEAD POINTED DOWN Hold the puppy firmly with both hands the head is reversed and is pointed downward so that it is pointing towards the ground. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds.
4. SUPINE POSITION Hold the puppy so that its back is resting in the palm of both hands with its muzzle facing the ceiling. The pup while on its back is allowed to sleep struggle. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.
5. THERMAL STIMULATION Use a damp towel that has been cooled in a refrigerator for at least five minutes. Place the pup on the towel, feet down. Do not restrain it from moving. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.
Everything is good in the puppy box. The puppies are growing so fast and Nessa is spending most of her time close to the puppies. My parents visited the puppies and Nessa was sleeping the visit time. Still a very cool mom.
Weighing in the evening:

Pentulaatikossa kaikki hyvin! Pennut syövät suorastaan liikuttavalla tarmolla ja maitoa tulee. Syömisen jälkeen kaikki asettuvat tyytyväisinä kellimään. Unissaan pennut viipottavat jo lujaa vauhtia. Tassut, korvat ja silmät väpättävät kovasti ja välillä pennut muodostavat kielellään imukupin kuin syödäkseen. Napanuorien tyngätkin ovat jo poissa. Ihania pieniä! Saran kaverikin kävi jo leikkimässä. Pentuaitaukseen ei ollut asiaa, mutta vieressä kävivät ihailemassa. Ja Nessa vain nukkui tyytyväisenä pentujen kanssa vierailun ajan. Lunki mamsku!

Päivä on sujunut pentulaatikossa hienosti. Pennut mötkeltävät, syövät ja nukkuvat. Ja pitävät ihanaa pientä pentuininää. Nessa on loistava äpe, hyvin levollinen ja hoitaa pentujaan antaumuksella. Kun joku piippaa jäätyään laatikossa väärään paikkaan, äpe hoitaa eksyneen lampaan takaisin.
Illalla tein kaikille pennuille lyhyen käsittelytuokion. Merletytöt Ihme ja Ihku kierurtelivat eniten, muut suhtautuivat käsittelyyn hyvin rennosti. Samassa tein iltapunnituksen:

In the evening I handeled the puppies for a while. Merle girls were wriggling themselves quite a bit, others took the handling quite calmly. The weighing in the night:

21.55 punainen tyttö valkoisilla ja tan merkeillä, 402g. "Ilo"

Hei me synnytetään! Puppies are on their way!
Tänään alkoi vihdoin tapahtua. Nessa oli jo aamuyöstä tavallista levottomampi. Lyhyt aamulenkki sujui tavallistakin rauhallisemmin ja kun käännyimme kohti autoa, tuli Nessalle kiire.
Koko päivän Nepe on läähätellyt, ollut levoton ja etsiskellyt pentulaatikon lisäksi sopivia pesäpaikkoja. Onneksi mamsku jaksoi odottaa minut töistä kotiin.
Puoli ysiltä illalla alkaa vaikuttaasiltä, että kohta tapahtuu. Seuraavassa viestissä pääsenkin todennäköisesti esittelemään teille uudet tulokkaat :-).

Today it finally started. Already in the early morning I saw that Nessa was being more restless than before. On the short morning walk she was even slower than she has been and when we turned around she was in a rush to get back to the car.
Nessa has been panting, been restless and searching for nice places, in addition to the puppybox, for her little ones. I'm so happy I got home from work early enough to see the birth of the puppies.
It's now 8.30 pm and I'm quite sure it starts to happen quite soon. We'll see. My next post is, hopefully, the introduction of the little ones :-).
